Measurements can sometimes be confusing since the same word may have different meanings depending on whether it is referring to liquid or dry measure or U.S. or Imperial (British) measure. For example an ounce may mean 1/16 of a pound or 1/16 of a pint. Pounds measure weight while pints measure liquid. Except in the case of ingredients with the same density such as water or milk they are not at all the same thing. And though U.S. and Imperial units of measure often have the same name they do not always represent the same quantities. To help you keep things straight, we have pepared tables of conversion and tables of equivalent measures. In the event things don't work out quite the way you expect remember the old Chinese proverb, "There are no mistakes, only variations".
